QLD and NT are closer to the tropics and the weather is warmer and more humid in general
TAS is colder as it’s further south
WA has the longest straight road in the world. It is 148km long!
If you are driving at dusk, dawn or twilight, watch out for kangaroos. They will be around closer to cities than you think and blend very well with dry arid areas.
It’s a huge country. Plan your route ahead of time. Plan to cover 150 km to 200 km per day to make the most of your experience and stop regularly to rest and have a break.
If you are planning to travel in the Outback, tell someone of your plans, your expected route, when you expect to reach your destination and make contact with them again when you arrive.
If you should break down in a remote area:
Don’t leave shoes or jackets outside. Australia has some of the most poisonous spiders and snakes in the world. Always check your shoes before you put them on and shake out any clothing that may have been left lying around.
Never leave any food lying around your camper. Clean up straight away and do your dishes. Ants can be a huge problems in some parts of Australia. Keep all food in the refrigerator or an esky. Ants will be attracted to any morsel that is left lying around.
