Toll Roads

This is intended as a guide only. Toll roads occur in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. Please read carefully in order to avoid fines and administration fees (that will be on-charged to you). Tolls need to be paid within 48 hours of travelling. It is a good idea to keep proof of payment. Please note that most Australian Toll Roads are being charged electronically and cannot be paid in cash. As a customer you’re responsible for paying all toll fees yourself.

Queensland

Paying online is the easiest option. This can be done at www.govia.com.au

Your payment will be via the “I want to” header and then the “Pay Casual Toll” tab. You will need:
• Make, model and colour of the vehicle
• Registration details and the state the vehicle is registered in
• Credit card
• Travel dates
• Class of vehicle (rental vehicles are usually classed as “light commercial vehicle”)

You will need to make a payment for each time you travel on a toll road.

You can pay via the phone. It’s important to know exactly where you are travelling as each toll road has a different number to call. You will need:
• Make, model and colour of the vehicle
• Registration details and the state the vehicle is registered in
• Credit card
• Travel dates
• Class of vehicle (rental vehicles are usually classed as “light commercial vehicle”)

Again, payment must be made each time you travel on a toll road.

New South Wales

If you are spending a bit of time around Sydney, the easiest option if you will be driving is to set up a pass online which will automatically deduct toll roads whilst on your trip.

This can be done via http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/myrta/e-toll/
Find the PASS information box and click on ‘Get a casual pass’
You will need:
• Make, model and and colour of the vehicle
• Registration details and the state the vehicle is registered in
• Class of vehicle (rental vehicles are usually classed as “light commercial vehicle”)
• Credit card

If you will be travelling in Victoria, too, we recommend that you book your pass via www.roamexpress.com.au
Here you select “get a visitor’s e-pass” on the start page and choose “click here to apply”.
Please note that a 75 ct video matching fee will be charged each time the vehicle has to be matched.
Advice for rental cars: Make sure that your pass expires at time and date of drop off, so that nobody will be using your credit card to pay for their toll.
